Research Project Management Competencies: A one-hour webinar hosted by the International Network of Research Project Managers (INRPM)

Join us for this webinar on project management competencies that can enhance research delivery, even if your role is not formally titled “project manager.” A competency can be defined as the ability to apply related knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform core work functions or tasks.[1] This session will bring together experts from Canada, Europe, and the United States to discuss how project management practices are applied across diverse research settings. Attendees will gain insights into the value of these capabilities within academia, research institutions, and health research systems, and learn how they can support the effective planning, coordination, and delivery of research projects.

Presenters:

  • P. Alison Paprica, PhD, PM, Senior Fellow, Professor (Adjunct) at the University of Toronto, will open with a grounding discussion of what a competency is, and which project management competencies she has observed being most helpful in research environments.
  • Next, Megan McMahon, PhD, Associate Scientific Director at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Health Services and Policy Research, will share the story of how project management became one of the core competencies in a Canadian framework for health services and policy research trainees,[2] alongside feedback from Health System Impact Fellows who apply project management competencies.
  • Finally, Jessica Schiller, EdD, PMP (Research Project Manager, University of Notre Dame) and Diana Hresko (Research Project Manager, Tilburg University) will share their thoughts about how valued research project management competencies in the USA and Europe are similar to, or different than, those described in Canada by Paprica and McMahon.

Who should attend:  Research project managers, research administrators, PIs leading complex projects, and anyone working to strengthen research delivery capacity…
